Old Mill Development
July 5th, 2007
An article in the Drogheda Leader this week paints a misleading picture regarding the Old Mill Hotel in Julianstown. The article states that the Old Mill will be demolished and that a “town centre” development comprising 10 retail units and 39 appartments will be constructed.
So far no planning application has been submitted. Also the Old Mill is a protected structure and is part of the Julianstown Architectural Conservation area. Apart from that there is a cap of 23 units that can be built in Julianstown in the next 6 years.
These limitation were approved by our elected councillors in March and any variation from that plan needs their approval. It will be interesting to see if the mystery purchaser of the Old Mill has any influence over the votes of our councillors. If he or she intends to carry out the plan as advertised in the Drogheda Leader they will need to persuade the councillors to reverse their decision made in March of this year.
